A comprehensive view of vitamins, minerals and biochemical cofactors
The Micronutrient & Cofactor Insight panel combines
Vitamin Panel 16
with
Elements in Blood III.
This integrated blood assessment evaluates vitamin status, active coenzyme
forms, antioxidant nutrients, essential minerals, trace elements and selected
potentially toxic elements.
Why combine these two tests?
Vitamins and minerals rarely function independently. Many enzymes require both
a vitamin-derived coenzyme and one or more mineral cofactors to support normal
biochemical activity. Energy production, methylation, neurotransmitter synthesis
and antioxidant defence depend on coordinated interactions between B vitamins,
magnesium, zinc, copper, selenium, manganese and other nutrients.
Measuring vitamins without the corresponding mineral context may leave an
incomplete picture. Combining both panels helps identify whether several related
cofactors are outside their expected ranges and provides a stronger basis for
clinically supervised nutrition or supplementation decisions.
Vitamin Panel 16
Evaluates fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, selected active coenzyme
forms, carotenoids and antioxidant-related nutrients. The panel also includes
Coenzyme Q10 and a carnitine profile, providing broad information about
nutritional and metabolic status.
Elements in Blood III
Measures essential minerals and trace elements associated with enzyme
activity, electrolyte balance, antioxidant systems and cellular metabolism,
together with selected potentially toxic elements.
What the combined panel evaluates
Vitamins and coenzymes
Fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K together with water-soluble B vitamins,
folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin C.
Antioxidant nutrients
Carotenoids, vitamin E forms, vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10 and related nutritional
antioxidant markers.
Essential elements
Minerals and trace elements including magnesium, zinc, copper, selenium,
manganese, chromium and molybdenum.
Potentially toxic elements
Selected elements such as lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, aluminium and thallium.
Clinical perspective
B vitamins, Coenzyme Q10, carnitine, magnesium and other elements contribute
to interconnected pathways involved in energy metabolism.
Folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, riboflavin, zinc and magnesium support
biochemical reactions involved in methylation and neurotransmitter metabolism.
Vitamins C and E, carotenoids, Coenzyme Q10, selenium, zinc, copper and
manganese contribute to complementary antioxidant systems.
Results can be reviewed as a pattern rather than interpreting each nutrient
in isolation, helping identify multiple low, high or imbalanced cofactors.
Potentially toxic elements may be considered alongside nutrients involved
in antioxidant protection and normal enzyme activity.
Who may consider this panel?
- People with persistent fatigue, reduced stamina or slow recovery
- Individuals following restrictive, vegan or vegetarian diets
- People with suspected nutrient insufficiency or absorption concerns
- Clients monitoring a nutrition or supplementation programme
- Individuals seeking a broad preventive micronutrient assessment
- Practitioners requiring both vitamin and mineral information
Sample requirements
Sample type: venous blood. Multiple collection tubes and
specific processing may be required.
Collection: available at WHL Bunnik or through an approved
collection arrangement coordinated with WHL.
Important: because certain vitamins require strict
pre-analytical handling, confirm the collection location and required kit with WHL before blood is drawn.
Preparation and collection
- Unless instructed otherwise, stop vitamin and mineral supplements 48 hours before collection.
- Do not stop prescribed medication unless advised by your treating physician.
- Normal meals and water are generally allowed unless WHL provides specific fasting instructions.
- Provide a current list of medications and supplements to support interpretation.
- Follow the supplied collection, processing and shipping instructions.
What you receive
You receive detailed laboratory results with measured values and reference
ranges for both panels, together with interpretive comments where applicable.
Approximate turnaround is 10–14 working days after all acceptable samples
arrive at the laboratory. A professional consultation can be arranged to
discuss the findings and appropriate next steps.
Related and complementary tests
assessment. It does not by itself diagnose a disease, determine the cause of
symptoms or replace medical evaluation. Results should be interpreted with
symptoms, medical history, diet, medication, supplement use and other relevant
investigations.
