Measure Whole-Blood Histamine From Home

Histamine is involved in immune responses, allergic reactions, gastrointestinal
function, vascular regulation and wakefulness.

This specialist home test uses a Tasso+ EDTA device and frozen-return kit to
preserve the whole-blood sample during transport.

Biomarker: Whole-blood histamine

Collection: Tasso+ EDTA device included

Sample: Minimum 250–300 µL EDTA whole blood

Transport: Freeze promptly and return using the specialist kit

Results: Typically within 3–5 working days after arrival

What Is Histamine?

Histamine is produced from the amino acid histidine by histidine decarboxylase.
Vitamin B6 in its active PLP form acts as a cofactor in this reaction.

Histamine is stored mainly within mast cells and basophils and can be released
during immune activation. It is also produced in the gastrointestinal tract and
participates in gastric-acid secretion, intestinal signalling and neurological
regulation.

How Is Histamine Metabolised?

Diamine oxidase – DAO
Contributes to the extracellular degradation of histamine, particularly within
the intestinal tract.

Histamine N-methyltransferase – HNMT
Metabolises histamine within cells and is especially relevant in tissues where
DAO activity is limited.

Whole-blood histamine measures circulating cellular and extracellular histamine.
It does not independently determine whether an abnormality is caused by DAO,
HNMT, mast-cell activation, diet or another mechanism.

When Can This Test Be Useful?

  • Histamine-related symptoms after food or alcohol
  • Flushing, itching or recurrent hives
  • Allergy-related or inflammatory patterns
  • Headaches associated with suspected histamine exposure
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms with suspected histamine involvement
  • Monitoring a previously elevated whole-blood histamine result
  • Practitioner-guided mast-cell or histamine assessment

Specialist Home Collection

1. Receive your frozen-return kit
We deliver the Tasso+ EDTA device, collection materials, frozen packaging and
detailed preparation instructions.

2. Collect from your upper arm
Place the device on your upper arm and press the button. A small whole-blood
sample is collected automatically.

3. Freeze promptly
Mix the EDTA sample as instructed and place it in the freezer immediately. Keep
the sample frozen for at least 24 hours before dispatch.

4. Return using the frozen courier
Pack the fully frozen sample with the supplied frozen materials and arrange the
designated express return service.

5. Receive your report
Your sample is analyzed by an accredited laboratory. Results are typically
available within 3–5 working days after an acceptable frozen sample arrives.

Before Collection

Collect in the morning, preferably after an overnight fast. Water is allowed.

Follow the enclosed instructions regarding high-histamine foods, alcohol,
strenuous exercise and supplements before collection.

Antihistamines block histamine receptors but do not necessarily reduce the measured
whole-blood histamine concentration. Do not stop antihistamines, mast-cell medication
or prescribed treatment without medical guidance.

Record all medication, supplements and recent allergic or inflammatory symptoms
when completing your test information.

Understanding Your Result

Your report provides the whole-blood histamine concentration, measurement unit
and laboratory reference interval.

Whole-blood histamine is influenced by basophil numbers, cellular histamine stores,
recent immune activation, medication, diet and sample handling.

The test does not independently diagnose histamine intolerance, food allergy or
mast-cell activation syndrome. Depending on the clinical question, additional
assessment may include tryptase, DAO-related evaluation, urinary histamine
metabolites or allergy testing.

Samples that thaw during transport or are not frozen promptly may be unsuitable
for analysis and may require recollection.

One carefully preserved sample for accurate whole-blood histamine analysis.
