Overview

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage and supports neurological function, immune regulation, and cardiovascular health. It consists of multiple biologically active forms, including tocopherols and tocotrienols.

Assessment of individual vitamin E fractions provides more meaningful information than measuring alpha-tocopherol alone.

What This Test Measures

This comprehensive profile includes:

Tocopherols

  • α-Tocopherol – primary biologically active form
  • β-, γ-, and δ-tocopherol
  • Total tocopherol

Tocotrienols

  • α-, β-, γ-, and δ-tocotrienol
  • Total tocotrienol
Clinical Use

Vitamin E profiling is useful for:

  • Assessing antioxidant capacity and oxidative stress balance
  • Investigating neuromuscular symptoms or immune dysregulation
  • Monitoring fat-soluble vitamin absorption
  • Supporting cardiovascular and metabolic risk evaluation

Low levels may occur despite adequate intake in cases of malabsorption or increased oxidative demand.

Method

Analysis is performed using LC–MS/MS, allowing accurate separation of individual vitamin E fractions.

Sample Requirement
  • Serum
Fasting sampling is preferred for optimal interpretation.

Suitable for postal submission.
