Connect gastrointestinal ecology with downstream metabolic patterns

The Gut–Metabolic Insight panel combines the Organic Acids Test with the GI360 Advanced Stool Analysis. It brings together urine metabolite information with DNA-based microbiome analysis, pathogen testing, culture, parasitology and targeted susceptibility testing.

Why combine these two tests?

A stool analysis and an Organic Acids Test examine different biological perspectives. GI360 evaluates organisms and microbial patterns present in the gastrointestinal sample using molecular and microbiological methods. Organic Acids measures metabolites excreted in urine, including selected compounds that may be influenced by microbial activity, as well as markers associated with energy metabolism, nutrient-dependent pathways, detoxification and neurotransmitter metabolism.

Used together, the tests can help determine whether stool findings have corresponding metabolic context and whether wider host biochemical patterns should be considered alongside gastrointestinal ecology. This is more informative than assuming that a urinary microbial metabolite identifies a specific organism, or that a stool finding necessarily explains systemic symptoms.

Included test 1

Organic Acids Test

Measures more than 95 urinary metabolites associated with mitochondrial energy production, selected microbial metabolism, nutrient-dependent pathways, detoxification, oxalate metabolism and neurotransmitter metabolism.

Included test 2

GI360 Advanced Stool Analysis

Evaluates microbiome abundance and diversity, dysbiosis patterns, bacterial, viral and parasitic pathogens, bacterial and fungal culture, microscopic parasitology and targeted susceptibility to antimicrobial and natural agents.

Two complementary levels of assessment

Microbiome structureDNA-based assessment of clinically relevant organisms, microbiome abundance, diversity and dysbiosis patterns.
Pathogens and cultureMolecular pathogen detection combined with culture-based organism identification and parasitology.
Microbial metabolitesSelected urinary metabolites that may provide additional context about bacterial, yeast or fungal metabolic activity.
Host metabolismOrganic-acid markers associated with energy production, cofactor-dependent pathways, detoxification and neurochemical metabolism.

Clinical perspective

Organisms versus metabolites: GI360 helps identify which organisms or microbial patterns are present, while Organic Acids evaluates selected compounds that may reflect microbial or host metabolism.
Dysbiosis context: Stool microbiome findings can be compared with urinary markers that may be associated with bacterial, yeast or fungal metabolic activity.
Beyond the gastrointestinal tract: Organic-acid markers add information about metabolic pathways that are not directly measured in the stool panel.
Targeted next steps: Culture and susceptibility findings may support practitioner decisions where a clinically relevant cultured organism is identified.
Responsible interpretation: Associations between stool findings, urine metabolites and symptoms require clinical correlation and do not by themselves establish causation.

Who may consider this panel?

  • People with persistent bloating, gas, constipation or diarrhoea
  • Individuals with recurrent or unexplained gastrointestinal symptoms
  • People with suspected dysbiosis or post-antibiotic disturbance
  • Clients with gastrointestinal symptoms accompanied by fatigue or broader metabolic concerns
  • Practitioners seeking both organism-level and metabolite-level information

Sample requirements

Organic Acids: approximately 10 mL first-morning midstream urine collected using the supplied urine kit.

GI360: stool sample collected at home using the dedicated GI360 collection kit.

Shipping: store and return each specimen exactly as described in its kit instructions. The two specimens may have different packaging and transport requirements.

Preparation and collection

  1. For Organic Acids, avoid apples, grapes, pears, raisins, cranberries and wine for 48 hours before urine collection.
  2. Unless instructed otherwise, avoid nutritional supplements for three days before the Organic Acids collection.
  3. Record recent antibiotics and current probiotics, antimicrobial products, medication and supplements on the request information.
  4. Do not stop prescribed medication or treatment unless advised by your treating physician.
  5. Follow the dedicated instructions supplied with both collection kits, including specimen labelling, storage and return shipping.

What you receive

You receive separate detailed laboratory reports for the Organic Acids and GI360 assessments, including measured findings and reference or interpretive information where applicable. Approximate completion is 10–14 working days after all acceptable specimens have arrived. Professional interpretation is recommended to integrate the two reports with symptoms, history, medication, diet and previous treatment.

Related and complementary tests

GI360 Comprehensive Stool AnalysisAn expanded stool option that adds functional markers associated with digestion, inflammation, intestinal immunity and the gut environment.
Elements in Blood IIIAdds information about essential mineral cofactors, trace elements and selected potentially toxic elements.
Vitamin Panel 16Directly evaluates vitamins, active coenzyme forms, carotenoids, Coenzyme Q10 and carnitine status.
Important: This panel supports gastrointestinal and biochemical assessment. It does not by itself diagnose a disease, prove that a detected organism is causing symptoms or replace medical evaluation. Results should be interpreted together with symptoms, medical history, diet, medication, recent antimicrobial use and other relevant investigations.
