Why this combined test?

Exposure to mold and mycotoxins can contribute to a wide range of persistent and non-specific symptoms affecting multiple body systems. Mycotoxins are toxic compounds produced by certain molds and may interfere with immune regulation, neurological signaling, mitochondrial energy production, and detoxification pathways.

The Myco-Metabolic Insight Panel combines two powerful assessments in one test:

  • Urine Mycotoxins – to identify possible exposure to mold toxins
  • Urine Organic Acids – to evaluate how this exposure may be affecting metabolism, detoxification, and oxidative stress

This combined approach provides a more clinically meaningful picture than either test alone.

What does this panel measure?

1. Urine Mycotoxins

This part of the panel measures clinically relevant mold toxins commonly associated with indoor environments and dietary exposure, including groups such as:

  • Ochratoxins
  • Aflatoxins
  • Trichothecenes
  • Gliotoxin-related markers (where applicable)

These markers help identify whether recent or ongoing mycotoxin exposure may be present.

2. Urine Organic Acids

Organic acids are metabolic by-products that provide insight into:

  • Mitochondrial energy production
  • Detoxification pathways
  • Oxidative stress balance
  • Nutritional and micronutrient status
  • Gut and microbial metabolism

By combining organic acids with mycotoxins, the panel helps connect environmental exposure with functional metabolic consequences.

When is this test clinically useful?

This panel may be relevant in individuals with persistent or unexplained symptoms, especially when there is a history of:

  • Living or working in damp or water-damaged buildings
  • Mold exposure at home, work, or in vehicles
  • Chronic infections or inflammatory conditions
  • Limited response to standard therapies

Symptoms that may prompt investigation include:

  • Chronic fatigue or low energy
  • Brain fog and cognitive difficulties
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability
  • Sinus congestion or respiratory symptoms
  • Digestive complaints
  • Skin problems
  • Heightened chemical or food sensitivities

Clinical value of the combined approach

Testing mycotoxins alone can identify exposure, but does not explain how the body is responding.

Adding organic acids allows assessment of:

  • Mitochondrial stress
  • Impaired detoxification
  • Oxidative burden
  • Nutritional imbalances
  • Microbial metabolic shifts

Together, this provides a more actionable foundation for targeted clinical support and follow-up strategies.

What you will receive

  • Quantitative results for mycotoxins and organic acids
  • Reference ranges
  • Laboratory report suitable for practitioner interpretation
  • Optional professional consultation or interpretation support (if offered)

Important notes

  • This test supports clinical investigation of mold exposure and metabolic stress.
  • Results should always be interpreted in clinical context together with symptoms and medical history.
  • A positive result does not identify the exact source of exposure.
  • A negative result does not completely exclude past exposure.

Sample type and collection

  • Sample requirement: Morning urine collection preferred
