Overview

The Nitrotyrosine test detects protein nitration produced by reactive nitrogen species (e.g., peroxynitrite). Elevated nitrotyrosine reflects nitrosative stress and inflammatory oxidative damage to proteins.

Why Test?

  • Identifies nitrosative stress in inflammatory and vascular conditions
  • Useful for cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, and autoimmune assessments
  • Monitors response to anti-inflammatory or antioxidant therapies
Interpretation: Elevated nitrotyrosine suggests increased protein nitration and ongoing nitrosative stress. Reference ranges are method-dependent.

How It Works

Sample: blood or plasma via standard draw. Analysis: validated immunoassay or mass-spectrometry methods. Report includes measured level, interpretation, and recommendations.

Reduce Elevated Nitrotyrosine

  • Antioxidant & anti-inflammatory strategies (e.g., NAC, antioxidants, dietary polyphenols)
  • Address underlying inflammation or infection
  • Lifestyle: smoking cessation, reduce pollutant exposure, balanced diet, sleep

For a complete oxidative/nitrosative assessment, see the Oxidative Stress Profile.

*Informational only. Consult a healthcare professional for interpretation.

  • Sample requirement: Plasma

Suitable for postal submission.
