Vitamin B1 Profile (Thiamine and Thiamine Diphosphate – TDP)
€ 30,00
Checks vitamin B1 levels, crucial for energy production and nerve function.
Beschrijving
Overview
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is an essential water-soluble vitamin required for mitochondrial energy production, glucose metabolism, and neurological and cardiovascular function. Inside cells, thiamine is converted into phosphorylated forms, of which thiamine diphosphate (TDP / TPP) is the primary biologically active coenzyme.
Because circulating free thiamine alone does not reliably reflect intracellular availability, assessment of multiple thiamine forms provides a more accurate picture of functional vitamin B1 status.
What This Test Measures
This profile quantifies several vitamin B1 fractions in blood:
- Thiamine (free thiamine)
Reflects recent intake and short-term availability. - Thiamine monophosphate (TMP)
An intermediate form in thiamine metabolism. - Thiamine diphosphate (TDP / TPP)
The metabolically active coenzyme form, primarily located inside erythrocytes and directly linked to enzymatic activity. - Total vitamin B1 (expressed as TDP equivalents)
Provides an integrated measure of overall vitamin B1 status.
Clinical Use
This profile is clinically useful for:
- Assessing functional vitamin B1 deficiency or insufficiency
- Investigating fatigue, neurological symptoms, concentration or memory issues
- Evaluating mitochondrial dysfunction and carbohydrate metabolism
- Monitoring patients with high metabolic demand, chronic stress, alcohol use, or malabsorption
Low TDP may be present even when free thiamine is within range, making this multi-parameter assessment clinically relevant.
Method
Analysis is performed using LC–MS/MS, allowing precise separation and quantification of individual thiamine vitamers.
Sample Requirement
- Whole blood (EDTA)
Light protection and refrigerated transport are recommended.
Suitable for postal submission.
