LTT – Plastics
€ 159,00
This test evaluates cell-mediated immune reactivity to commonly used dental and industrial plastic monomers.
Sample collection must take place at World Health Laboratories (WHL) or be delivered with ice to the lab on the same day of collection before 2:00 PM.

Lymphocyte Transformation Test (LTT)
The Lymphocyte Transformation Test (LTT) evaluates cell-mediated (Type IV) hypersensitivity reactions by measuring lymphocyte proliferation after exposure to specific substances in vitro.
Unlike IgE allergy tests, LTT detects delayed immune reactions, which are often involved in:
- chronic inflammation
- unexplained fatigue
- neurological symptoms
- implant intolerance
- dental material intolerance
- multi-chemical sensitivity
This makes LTT particularly useful in environmental medicine, dentistry, and implant compatibility assessment.
Clinical purpose
This test evaluates cell-mediated immune reactivity (Type IV hypersensitivity) to commonly used dental and industrial plastic monomers. These substances are widely present in dental composites, resins, and prosthetic materials and may trigger delayed immune responses in susceptible individuals.
Why this matters
Plastic monomers can contribute to:
- Oral and mucosal irritation
- Immune system activation and chronic inflammation
- Potential endocrine-disrupting effects
- Neurological or systemic symptoms in sensitive individuals
Because these reactions are delayed and not IgE-mediated, they are often not detected by standard allergy testing.
Typical exposure sources
- Dental composite fillings and bonding agents
- Dental prosthetics and orthodontic materials
- Occupational exposure in dentistry, laboratories, or plastics manufacturing
Interpretation Notes
LTT results indicate:
- degree of lymphocyte activation
- potential delayed hypersensitivity
- immune system recognition of substances
Results should be interpreted alongside:
- clinical history
- symptom patterns
- exposure history
- other immune markers
Why WHL LTT testing is valuable
- Supports complex chronic cases
- Adds objective immune data
- Guides implant and dental material selection
- Helps explain unexplained inflammatory symptoms
- Complements toxicology and mineral panels
- Sample requirement: Whole blood
